Drama and music Theatre
Brief portrait The "GRIPS Theatre" sees itself as a contemporary-political Theatre for young audiences and tells stories that deal with the world. The focus is on a socio-critical examination of the real lives of children and young people. The artistic work is based on the interests of its audience. This results in exciting Theatre experiences from a wide variety of perspectives that appeal to children and young people and reflect the diversity of today's society. Since 1980, the "GRIPS Theatre" has also performed for adults and thus reaches an audience that spans generations, cultures and social classes. The Theatre feels particularly committed to those who are considered disadvantaged in an increasingly globalized society. In its work, it takes a stand on various forms of injustice and actively reacts to social grievances. The "GRIPS Theatre" has already had numerous productions nominated for the IKARUS Berlin Theatre Prize. Of these, "Nellie Goodbye" won the IKARUS in 2005 and "So lonely" in 2011. The production "Dschabber" won the IKARUS of the Youth Jury in 2019. "Kai goes to war and comes back with grandpa" won the IKARUS 21.0 for outstanding productions during the pandemic. The production "SELFIE" won both the expert and youth jury awards in 2022.
