Since 2004, the IKARUS has been awarded once a year by the JugendKulturService as a prize for particularly outstanding productions by Berlin's Theatres for children and young people. Due to the positive reception from Theatre professionals and audiences, this Theatre prize has been given even more "wings" and has taken off to new heights since 2013.
With its endowment, the IKARUS is no longer just a non-material prize for outstanding Theatre productions, but also a promotion and encouragement of further artistic daring in Theatre work for children and young people.
The endowment is made possible by funds from the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family (Youth Jury Prize) and the support of citizens (certainist Jury Prize).
In its eleventh year, the IKARUS is set to continue its high flight. Join us in 2024 and send a clear signal that quality deserves attention:
Support the diversity and innovative power of Theatre for young audiences with your donation. In addition to financial recognition for the Theatres, you will be making a contribution to future extraordinary Theatre experiences for the children and young people of this city.
As a thank you, we invite all donors as guests of honor to the festive IKARUS award ceremony on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the ATZE MusikTheatre. 100% of the prize money will go to the award-winning Theatres or groups.

Kathrin Völker-Krause, Managing Director of JugendKulturService gGmbH, emphasizes: "Support the diversity and innovative power of Theatre for young audiences with your donation .In addition to financial recognition for the Theatres, you will be making a contribution to future extraordinary Theatre experiences for the children and young people of this city."
The innovations for the IKARUS Prize are intended to draw even more attention from the general public and the media to the high-quality children's and youth Theatre offerings in our city. The endowment of the IKARUS Prize and the consolidation of the nominations listed as part of the IKARUS Festival are important steps in this direction. The opportunity to take a concentrated look at worthwhile Berlin Theatre productions for children and young people within a few days offers Theatre professionals, the participating nominated Theatres and the interested public a forum in which current impulses and accents of the children's and youth Theatre scene can be viewed and discussed.
